03-18-2003 I think I'm done breaking
updating my website now. Some long-ago brokenesses are fixed. Some old
stuff and duplicates removed.
And I uploaded the latest on that unnamed stern-lady-with-sabre.
03-06-2003 Hm... Not much to say but here's
something I started in pencil.
And then got stuck photoshopping.
03-05-03 I got more information today regarding the tragic events which inspired
the Hush picture. I think I need to get that book.
Kinda makes everything I'm doing today feel very insignificant.
02-11-03 Finally gave up on improving this one and just uploaded it. It's the
Dragonlily.
02-02-03 Heh. Accidentally moved entire gallery into some random folder without
realizing it. GUI's are
not always good.
Thanks to
everyone who notified me that all the links broke. Sometime soon I'll upload a finished
version of the dragonlily.
01-20-03 Finished "Windsor", a role-playing game character portrait, which you can find on
the RPG Portraits page. Now that I look at it after taking
a break from it a while,
it looks like his body is too small and shoulders too wide for his head. And I fudged the
sizes for the guy in the mirror for artistic reasons - can you tell?
09-25-02 Sketched this dragon newt lotus lily in
pencil and decided it was worth coloring. This is in the initial stages. I'm not
sure it's going to stay pastels.
09-23-02 I was reminded today that I hadn't posted an update regarding
my picture "Hush". It is important to state
that I have NO FACTS at this time to corroborate the
horrible story regarding BABIES. There is a similar documented incident regarding
adults. More info at the bottom of the page.
08-28-2002
Finished the Green
Tea Dragon and uploaded the version of the Red
Rose Dragon with hands
07-26-2002 A mostly finished Green
Tea Dragon.
06-29-2002 Hmmm... would you believe I drew yet another pointy
chinned female with wings? Here she is, Liara.
05-20-2002 Wow, I finished another RPG portrait. Check out Kyasi
in my RPG Portraits gallery
05-13-2002 errr.... :-) A few things in case I'm too lame to make a more
official update. It typically takes me months to answer email. My hands
tingle if I draw so I've been not doing much computer stuff outside of
work. I did actually do a few doodles since March. Here's one of them.
It needs a better name as usual. For now it's Robewings.
There is no robe. There is no spoon.
03-03-2002 Sigh... Ok people, most of you probably know this but just
in case you're new to this web thing and don't know, here's the scoop.
Even if you get permission to display someone else's graphics,
it's a naughty and bad thing to link directly to them. You're supposed to
copy them to your own server. Otherwise, you're using the other person's
bandwidth and that's bad because in this day and age, the other
person is probably paying for that bandwidth. Which means you'd
be stealing from that other person. You might think one or two images won't
hurt, but when added up, it means real money. (Note that it's not bandwidth
stealing to link to another person's web page.) So to make
web pages that people can respect - put images on your own server.
FYI, to get below my bandwidth limit on my host (the cool and fast
pair.com), I had to move most of my
images to my other site AND take steps to avoid bandwith
stealing.
02-28-2002 I rearranged my site in a way that shouldn't look any
different 'cause I
got a report for bandwith usage and it was getting a little out of
hand. I moved things around, changed directories for images.
Let's see how this works out. This site is getting more traffic
than I thought. Whoops. :-P Hi people! :-)
Also... There was this commission which I was never paid
for so I didn't post it (well, except for the small one on Elfwood). But
I gave up on waiting for that. It was July of 2000. Ok, so I forgot too. :)
Anyhow, here he is now, Eloran. Non-commission
rules apply for usage on this guy.
Double whoops. It's getting light out. I might have a cold. Enough
cleaning websites.
02-08-2002 I get to go to figure drawing sessions with real live
models now. Work has it in-house, what a great thing. Actually, I organize
it these days but the info was already prepared from a year ago when
the last person was admin'ing. I had to convince
Management that a bunch of artists want to go then I had to get a certain
number of artists to say they'd go.
But some artists actually come and work pays for it. Aren't
they swell? Wheeeee!
Anyhow, here's what came
out of the most recent
session. Before you get too excited,
it's pretty boring stuff. It's not fantasy nor up to the quality, finish, or color
of my photoshop work.
01-29-2002 In the early morning hours, while waiting for the Nth
build to cook, copy, zip, etc, decided to upload the not-quite-finished
new demonborder image for the top page. I kinda like it
even half finished as it is.
01-28-2002 Another hour or so on the Red
Rose Dragon. Cleaned it up a bit and removed the bud. Having work
fun with localization on Mad Dash, so not much photoshopping going
on.
01-21-2002
Started a Red Rose Dragon inspired by
some ramblings from Erika. It could use some arms and I think
I'll lose the rosebud because it clutters up the image.
It also needs cleanup and finishing.
01-16-2002 Here are even more declassified photos, this time of
Sara Angel-Devil. These too were
put on a mug for a Christmas present.
01-12-2002 Here are the declassified Trent Angel-Devil photos which were put on a mug for a
Christmas present.
01-01-2002 I'm practicing writing the new year. Happy New Year
everyone! Ok, for people following Hydra, this isn't new (again) but
I collected the "trumps" aka character portraits that I did last year on a
Portraits page.
12-18-01 Added Keelie. She's
somewhat sketchy but Sunspark likes her that way. And I'm lazy.
I also changed my Art Policy. Hopefully
everyone will get their answers faster. At the same time I'm hoping
it'll prevent the problem where people assume my art is public domain
because when they found it, it was displayed w/o copyright notice.
It's not my preference to have copyright notices all over the place but
otherwise I end up having to tell well-meaning people that the art they
thought was public domain is not. This will also save on typing and
guilt trips when I take months to answer email. :-}
11-24-01 Finally finished one I started years ago. I kind of like
how it came out. Ekaterina
could almost be a Hydra character... but isn't.
11-15-01 For those following Hydra, this one isn't exactly new,
but I felt like posting something and I also like the full
uncropped version of this image. Anyhow, here's Dawn Shore. I might post detail
shots if I feel super industrious.
11-3-01 A couple more hours on Bleuete. Cleaned up mostly, did
fingers and toes!,
shaded the body a bunch more. Added a strange modern-art style
background until I can think of something better.
10-31-2001 A somewhat finished
Bleuete. Long time no see, eh? Well
work has finally somewhat let go of it's vast and crushing grip on me.
(not counting current emergency.) I actually did a few more things
for Hydra since
last this page got updated. They may be posted soon. I might also
finally get around to updating my permissions policy and answering
about a year of back email. :-/
07-17-2001 Another sketch. Peanut gallery says it should be
called "Duck" because that's what you
should do if you see her coming. Still just as addicted, just not
starting up the evil program as often. Dsl still on the fritz. No
perforce so still no web backups. Live dangerously. :)
03-02-2001 Yo. Not so much updates now, eh? work work work.
Too much typing makes for tingly hands. Bare bones, no brainspace
for chitchat. Here's two recent doodlings. Makita and Demon Wing. Alexis isn't talking to Izmirian
so no perforce managed updates. Hope I don't need backups. :-)
01-04-2001 A friend said that it should be called "Clutch". Here
are two versions then, Clutch
I and Clutch II. Also,
here's a quick one, Jalene. Hey, it's
the first new thing of the "real" millenium.
11-29-2000 Another sketch. Um. Initially inspired by a
hallucination which had watercolor blotches and a celtic knot style of
border. Now it has an alien and wings.
It could use a name. I'm
still playing with the composition. Originally she was bald. ;-)
Maybe I'll post that version too.
11-23-2000 A sketch in the figure-drawing style, with a sketch of
another dry leaf I was doing for practice. Isn't it neat how leaves
have such nice swoopy lines and it's all natural? 100% organic too,
probably. Or maybe not, since I got this leaf in a park where I know
they put down weed killer or fertilizer or something. Anyhow. Sunspark
thought this should be named "Ferocious Lady" and so it is. I was
trying for seductive but there you go. Oh yeah, Happy Thanksgiving
everyone! We're making traditional thanksgiving curry pastries and
tiramisu pudding. It's pudding because I had a bit of a measuring
accident and stuff didn't stiffen up the way it usually does. heh...
one-stomach principal and all that. :-)
11-07-2000 I'm calling Nadine
done for now. She could use a more finished background, cleanup on the
ties/patterns on her bodice, etc, etc. But... I like it now and I'm
tired.
11-02-2000 Did some more work on Kanisa and Khalil and
Nadine. Figured they're done enough
to start warranting their own pages. Other stuff that you can't tell,
retrofitted my site to match what I have checked into
Perforce, my spiffy
revision control software. Perforce is so cool. Maybe I'll set it up
to auto upload my site to the web...
10-23-2000 Added a dress to a figure drawing sketch. Sunspark
likes the red one partly because I've got so many blue/green/purple
things already. I'm gonna call it "Nadine".
09-26-2000 Did some work over the past few days on "Kanisa and Khalil". She's got real
toes now, the dragon has more complete scales, and I spruced up the
lighting and saturation. Maybe I'll finish this one soon. It's
almost done enough to warrant a real page.
09-20-2000 Fixed link to the gargoyle. Thanks Christophe for
pointing that out. And fiddled with the latest sketch, how about a Sweet Apricot fairy?
Urk... I oughta stop putting wings on everything. And pink to
boot!?
09-10-2000 More clothing sketches, Sweet Apricot. My dad knew
a girl named that when he was young. We recently moved out of a house
where there was an apricot tree. If the bugs didn't get them first,
there would be a huge crop of them. Sweet, incredibly fragrant, soft,
fruity and juicy. Oh yes, sweet apricot, mmmm.
09-04-2000 Clothing sketches. We're thinking of
maybe going to a Renaissance Faire. Maybe I'll make new garb. Or
maybe I'll take a nap instead.
09-01-2000 Not much drawing recently. I did a couple of composites
but they're too embarrasing to show. I did clean up
Bones somewhat. Whaddya think, opaque
hair or translucent where you can see part of her body?
08-09-2000 Started work on a dragon
over vacation. Was gonna try to make a t-shirt image. Didn't finish
it, didn't have t-shirt transfers, it's a wonder it got this far.
Color dodge rocks. And invert is kinda cool too.
07-13-2000 Worked some more on that vampire. Highlights for hair so
it looks copper (as per spec). Oh, no, gotta do the folds in cloth.
07-12-2000 Sketch of a vampire. At
this resolution, you can't see the fangs, but then I always thought
the huge obvious fang thing was a bit silly. Hey, and I'm finally
making a dent in my email backlog. I'm somewhere in the "May"
mail... eek. At least I'm not backed up til may 1999. ;-)
07-03-2000 Oooh, I'm so pleased that this is finally public...
Here's Rion and Goldleaf
06-19-2000 Recently it seems like "Oh My" got really popular
because I had two commissions involving her. Here they are:
Oh My II and
Oh My I'm Purple.
I also rearranged my galleries a bit, trying to put newest
pictures at the top of each page.
06-16-2000 Just over three hours on Bones.
05-18-2000 Eep. It looks like I haven't been drawing but I have.
In between finishing up commissions and lots of work, I've been
making little sketches. Here's a sketch I'm
going
to call Tiamar if I finish her. I may even
leave it all pastel like that.
05-09-2000 Tweaked the far pigtail on
Oh My so it looked more perspective correct.
Yeah, I bet you can't tell. :-) I was working on different versions of her
for some commissions and the hair was bugging me. Also, realized that I
never posted another commission,
Her Three Faces.
05-07-2000 I realized I never posted the
Eris commission.
04-24-2000 I drew a
monarch-style butterfly last week. Someone
asked for a sparkly pink one. Well, these aren't sparkly nor pink,
but here they are. The green and gold was the original and I'd used
it for "In the Grass".
04-17-2000 A weird composite which I'm calling In the Grass.
04-07-2000 Hm. Reinstated the
Kanisa and Khalil picture in my
sketches
gallery, thanks to the person who pointed out it'd gotten lost.
Finished Figure Bow as much as I feel
like it, had fun playing with colors,
and decided to upload the best of the color combos. I stuck it in my sketches
gallery because it's not all that polished and besides, I didn't even
bother to come up with a better name. :-)
04-04-2000 Figure sketch of bowing. Wings for fun.
03-17-2000 Finished Tanith as much
as I'm going to.
03-06-2000 Some work on a lady named Tanith.
Scottish, I think, light freckles, dragon on the hilt, and a 6 foot hilt.
I think that last part was a typo so I didn't do it. Heh, it's been
a month and still no blue in my pictures. Maybe I'm getting
over it. :-)
03-01-2000 Hm, long time... Well, I did some more work on that
dragon & lady pair. Decided to name her Kanisa. So it'll be
Kanisa and Khalil when it's done. I've got
some other things that I've been working on that I'll put up
one of these days. Busy... I'm about 3 weeks behind in email, sorry!
02-09-2000 Wanna see what became of that horse preview? It's
Paige's pegasus. Maybe the pegasus
itself needs a name. How about "Spud-nik"? :-)
02-04-2000 Happy, healthy, safe and
prosperous Chinese New Year to my family and friends.
Colored in the sphere
thingie in their hands and did a lot of detail
work on the
dragon's face which you can't see at this resolution. Hrm.
Lots of work still left.
Decided to name the dragon "Khalil" which is Arabic for "friend."
Toying with names for the lady. I wasn't going to work on this
one tonight because the year of the dragon coincidence was too
obvious but I liked it so I did anyhow.
02-03-2000 Parallel processing. Here's about 6 hours of an
unfinished
dragon for Pierre. Hope it brings
you luck.
01-25-2000 Pssst. Wanna see a little piece of what I've
been working on? It's a horse.
01-17-2000 I actually made a page to display a commission. Thori Demon.
01-11-2000 Another fairy sketch,
needs name, kinda sad looking mostly due to the pose. I realized that
in spite of the zillions of winged things I've made, I didn't even
have a dozen polished-and-done fairies. I'm calling her Liane, just
in case I finish the picture.
01-04-2000 A few more hours on that Insect Armor
sketch
01-02-2000 Another quick sketch
of something that came into my
head over vacation. Boring standard pose. I just wanted the pointy
toes and wings to make that general shape. And the irridescent insect
wing tips.
12-14-1999 Redrew one of the figures who was only cut-n-pasted
in Pods. Not sure it looks better...
12-13-1999 A quickie. Pods.
Another hallucination. HR Giger?
Maybe.
12-09-99 Last weekend I started practicing torsos as recommended in
"Dynamic Figure Drawing" by Hogarth. Great book. I turned one of them
into Dancing Flame. For once, I spent a bunch more time on the face
than on the body. Though I liked the inverted dark version,
I had a really hard time clarifying the details of the face. It was much
easier to work with in the light colors. Then I had a small revelation
which was that
lips are dark on dark skin people as well as light and this helped
a lot. bleep. Face still looks odd... Don't look at the face. :-)
11-22-99 Last week I learned how to use Photoshop's mask tool. Heh,
it's pretty nice for compositing a bunch of images together. A friend asked
me to do something with the shoe pictures she'd taken for the MITBDT.
Also, I reorganized my images directory a bit. Pulled out the old
unfinished stuff into a sketches directory. And I made some
clothing sketches.
11-17-99 Finished scales on the snake-dragon including redoing the scales
on the tail because they were going the wrong way.
Photoshop crashed a bunch of times.
Sigh...
11-11-99 Detailing on the face and new colors for the snake-dragon.
Dropped the dragonfly people
because they made it too messy (and looked kind of comical to boot.)
Small technical fixes to A sidhe named She
(chest lopsided)
and See No Evil (neck shoulder).
11-09-99 About an hour of messing around
with recollections of deep
irridescent blue etched scales, and insect wings. Plus, because I find
it hard to help myself, a few minutes of the color dodge tool.
11-03-99 Here's two hours of fooling around:
Window Shots. I'm not
sure it warrants its own page, but I don't have a sketches page
yet. I probably oughta put the seahorse there too.
11-03-99 I had done some lights for Irreverent
but I had to redo them this morning because when I went to tweak something
very small in Photoshop, it did a bad thing and filled my file with neon
colored garbage. Hate it when that happens. Luckily, I had the version
just before the lights. Thanks to zanzibar for advice on which version
of lights to use.
10-27-99 What have I been up to these last two weeks? Working on
Irreverent. And packing. And working.
And rebooting our PC more times than I care to count. And restoring from
the registry... Errrr, yeah, I'm sure you wanted to know that. :-) Hum
dee dum, yeah I like this one. I like the face maybe best. :)
I guess I
could do more on it, but it's feature complete anyhow and I finally dealt
with the blob that she was holding in her hand.
10-10-99 Here's one called Bethon Am
A'Shalka, an elf-mage.
The name is probably only slightly better than "Kibbles and Bits" or
"Great Balls of Fire". Can you tell it's 3am? :-)
I was practicing folds in cloth this weekend.
09-29-99 Still not enough photoshop! I spent an about hour this morning
finishing this one off. The cool thing is that I've been getting enough sleep,
eating chocolate chip cookies, and having fun programming at work a lot.
Cheshire Moon
is a quickie, but at least it satisfies my craving for new
content for the time being. (How come fix-its aren't as amusing, hmmmm?)
09-27-99 A better banister for Kei
Lani. Also, I redid the scales on the demonform,
Violet
Scales so they look more like scales and less like leprosy (yep,
it's Lin'air... I always meant to do this).
09-26-99 I oughta mention I did a commission (Iris Red) in July
which I finally put on the
commissions page.
There was another one
too but I haven't made a page for "Her Three Faces". Just a little behind...
09-12-99 3d title graphic for Hydra Chaos page. A version anti-aliased
for the Amber side coming soon (after the peanut gallery finished with
feedback on current one.) There was also Hydra's
violet-scaled demonform
with delicate wings recently, but that needs work too since the scales
have an unfortunate resemblance to a skin disease.
09-05-99 Worked 7 hours straight one evening to turn a pencil sketch
into Surrend. I was going through
serious photoshop
withdrawal so I punted the remainder of an evening out with friends. How
antisocial. A few more
hours plus feedback from the peanut gallery (thanks!) helped to make the
demons more obvious.
08-27-99
Named that lady Kei Lani thanks
to Susie. It's feature
complete anyhow, even though I'd like to work a bit more on the hands, the
banister, etc. Added icons and links for her and Hush
to the appropriate
galleries. I need to do more of that.
08-18-99 Beginnings of a banister for that lady to lean on. Thank goodness I found a
reasonable position for the thing in less than an hour. I had been
dreading figuring out what her hands should be doing. Since I last
posted, I also worked on the dress which, in its original lavender blue
and disney-style configuration, had been competing with the wings.
She still needs a name.
08-06-99 When one stays up til 4am playing with photoshop, it is
wise for one to close photoshop and turn off the computer to
discourage further photoshopping the next morning. I am not wise.
Another bunch of hours of work on this lady
who still needs a name. Added a dress, tweaked the face yet again,
and many hours trying to get a decent body/pose.
08-04-99 Up til 2am... More work on that lady's wings. Wings are such great fun and so much
easier than the figures. I love the "color dodge" mode of the
airbrush. I turned the wings from fairly cool misty cobwebs into
really cool irridescent things in a few swooshes.
08-03-99 Hush. Mostly-finished
this last night. Warning, Sunspark calls this my gruesome picture.
Not nice at all... Feel free to tell me you don't like it.
07-28-99 Working on a lady's face. Still quite sketchy. It's
another thing with wings. I was
going to go to bed early last night, but noooo. At 11pm I opened
Photoshop. Apparently I haven't learned one bit. :-) The amusing
thing is that all night these lyrics were going through my head: (to
the tune of Turkey in the Straw)
Oh, I had a little chickie, but he wouldn't lay an
egg
So I rubbed hot water up and down his leg
And the little
chickie cried, and the little chickie begged
And the little
chickie laid a hard boiled egg!
Boring details you don't need to read: Took about 6 hours to get
here from the pencil sketch and it still doesn't have the same expression
as on the pencil. I was trying to use a different method to color it
but it took forever and still wasn't all that accurate. I tried to
redraw lines in photoshop on in a different layer on top of the
sketch, fill it in, and redraw the features.
07-20-99 I used a jellyfish sketch from last night as the
background for my new Custom Images - FAQ page.
I wasn't going to make this page, but it takes me too long every day
to answer each email individually.
07-19-99 Not a new picture, but I finally added the banner that
SnowTigress made to my Link Logos
page. Thanks Kym!
07-16-99 Up late. So much for the early schedule the recent
vacation had me on. The early schedule was due to east coast time as
opposed to any particular virtue on my part. :-) Instead of working on
my self-imposed drawing assigment, I just did another pretty face. Ladyhawk. Might be cliche now, but
shapeshifting is still cool. Hm... anyone want to see the red version?
06-24-99 In the wee hours of logical-23rd, tweaked the knees of
Oh My to not be too low. Well,
they're higher now anyhow.
06-23-99 Tweaked eyes on Strong. I gotta new sketch too, but I
think I'll keep it in reserve for now. ;-)
06-22-99 "Strong" was Sunday's (6/20)
sketch. I can tell now his left eye is too high. I suspected as much
after I flipped it, but as common, once I flipped it back, the
corrected version looked wrong so I uncorrected it... oops. He was the
biggest buffest guy in the Macy's men's clothes ad-magazine. It's
also cool that he's clearly neither caucasian nor asian. Just
over 2 hours.
06-17-99 I started doing a lot of quickie sketches.
The upcoming weeks probably
won't be so pretty, but I've decided to work on my drawing skills as
opposed to succumbing to the pleasures of making pretty pictures.
Anyhow, here is today's guy-face sketch. Half hour. This one uses the "draw
with volumes" technique. The guy was from some magazine. He doesn't
quite look like the magazine, but at least he doesn't look like the
generic pointy chinned female face I always draw either.
06-07-99 No new pictures, just made icons for Sira and The Sun
That Kills and put them in my People 2
gallery.
06-04-99 Recolored the hair and changed the outfit on Sira. I wanted the red-gold hair colors
on the hires version. Previously I had foolishly only colored a
lowres version. I like the asymetric outfit and accoutrements
better. It's more primal and fierce, more like my original pencil sketch.
06-02-99 A new one, The Sun That
Kills is a little different for me. It started with the
background and the figure is male.
05-26-99 More minor fussing, darkened the skin on Oh My. I'm sure the lighting is still
not realistic, but at least she's not lit like she's in bright sun.
05-20-99 Better feet for Oh My
05-19-99 About 11 hours of Mischief in the
Trees. Had to redo the bottom figure's near leg and hips. Lost a
bit of time to a crash. As may be obvious, this one was from a pencil
sketch.
05-18-99 Okay, okay... I admit I'm taking a commission or two these
days. If you must know more, feel free to contact me. You can also just say "hi!"
:-) I like that too.
05-14-99 Silly me, tweaked with the sword angel again. Lots more detail in
the feathered wings, fixed a few anatomy problems I hope. Made the
panther a bit more obvious.
05-12-99 I'm calling the sword
angel done even though I'm not entirely pleased with the
background or the fuzziness of the wings. Added some jewelry and
cleaned up a lot of stuff. And it's bed time.
05-11-99 La la la, I have time to Photoshop again. :-) This is
about four hours worth of asword angel.
With its double edge and narrow point, the sword is ideally suited for
thrusting attacks. Humph. The "sweetness and light" colors came out
better than I expected, given it's not my style. Not my fault.
Someone asked for a teenaged angel.
05-08-99 Spent an extremely enjoyable four hours this. Decided that "Oh My" is a better
name than "Not Capewing". Have you ever tried on a really flattering
dress, one that looks great on you, and said "Oh my... that slit is
much higher than I remember"? I haven't... but someone I know who
has. ;-)
Took 1.5 hours for the background (ahem,
such as it is), about 2 for the wing texturing and coloring, and the
rest on sundry fixits. Still need to do the feet. Might drop the
pigtails. Had to reduce the highres size down some since photoshop
had become waaaaay too sloooow after I converted all the layers from
greyscale to rgb. Finally remembered that I can increase the brush
size so as to make working in highres more like I'm used to: big
swooshes of paint.
04-28-99 Recently realized I'd forgotten to include some of my
random scenery-type pictures when I reorganized this gallery.
Reinstated my Miscellaneous gallery.
04-20-99 I've started a lot of pictures recently and finished
none. (And gone on vacation, etc :-) Here's a rough version of
something that evolved from a pencil sketch from my trip. My working
name for it is "Not Capewing" which is an
even sillier name than usual...
03-24-99 Added a few small floating feathers to the
Emily angel.
03-22-99 Redrew the back wing and cleaned up the head on the Not Jabberwock. I'd been a little
embarrased about it for a long time because I'd been too lazy to do a
real
back wing so did a
copy/past/distort on the front wing. Also, I now have a photoshop
version of the tiling background. :-)
03-17-99 Colored the most recent Sira
somewhat according to a character request but decided not to do the
full character. I was pleased with the colors in the hair, the dress
leaves something to be desired, and I still haven't tackled her right
hand
03-16-99 The trouble with being knee
high to a preying mantis is that your parents have access to
better technology. This one could use a better name and a more
interesting and contrasting background. (Quickie sketch, about 3
hours.)
02-20-99 A quickie Tea Fairy who's not finished yet.
02-10-99 Not a new picture, but I noticed my
Mythical Creatures
gallery was too slow to load so I made small icons and subpages instead.
02-04-99 A new composite. Not enough time to draw, but a little time
here and there to finish up a wee
person with not-so-wee ears.
01-18-99 Not a new picture, but since I'm too lame to finish
making a nice links page, I thought I'd add a link here first.
Lyndell featured me as amateur artist of the month (Jan 1999) on his
homepage. Thanks Dell! :-)
01-09-99 Busy busy, so it took surprisingly long to change the
layout of my picture gallery a little. Mostly, I just dated the
pictures and stopped doing the link to all subgalleries. I did upload
a sketch of someone with a lot of hair. I
deliberately started this one in pencil in an attempt to NOT get
sucked into the fun of fussing over every detail - I just wanted
practice. (final name, Sira)
12-18-98 No new pictures, but SinGothic made some
nice banners and allowed me to display them on my logos page.
12-01-98 Finally mostly done with See No Evil. I'm fairly pleased with it,
surprising for something that's been put on the backburner so much.
11-12-98 Was going to be done, but added a back foot and tweaked
the front foot on Reverence. Also
did subtle color things so the clothes are more distinct.
11-06-98 Over this pask week, finally finished Reverence for Phantasia.
I think I'm finally mostly satisfied with the mouth too. Redid the
hands yesterday again, did some lights. The lights came out nicer
than I expected. Phantasia likes it too. Cool. :-)
10-28-98 Trouble with faces. Spent 5 hours, two nights ago,
fiddling with faces looking up. Got a couple looking up, but they
looked plain or goofy. (One with a big wide smile - too cheery. :)
One with big boogly eyes. Looked ok close up but at regular zoom, she
looked like an alien. This morning, spent an hour (naughty!) or so
making closed eye-lids, antennae, one ear in front of the hair, etc.
Cropped the display-version for that artsy
look.
Oh yeah, I think I'll call this one "Reverence".
10-22-98 Another 5 hours of sleep on the wings of Phantasia's fairy. At 3am, I had just managed to clean up
and texture the top folded-over parts of the wings. Stepped back and
didn't like how it looked. With a little frustration, quickly fiddled
with the flattened jpg version and liked it much better. Spent
another 2 hours doing those changes on the "real" photoshop file.
Moral: don't get involved with detailing textures before the shape is
laid down.
10-21-98 Here's two more hours of sleep spent on another early sketch of
the fairy for Phantasia. I opened
Photoshop around 01:30 and was just going to look at pictures
a little. Next thing I knew, it was two hours later. :-)
This will be the last of the series;
quite late, I know. :-/ Probably 4-5 hours so far. Last night re-did
the face and hands since the "hands over heart" position Phantasia
suggested helped reduce the silliness of the previous look-up pose.
10-14-98 Venus II, the
goddess with a long blue dress this time. Hm. Sent this off to Phil
today, hope he likes it. Ate the last of the batch of chocolate chip
cookies today. That was about about 4 doz, I think. No nuts. :)
Also, made a wrapper display page for Ant
Lady and added thumbnails for "Venus II" and "Miss White" to the
People Gallery.
10-7-98 I was going to save Miss
White for Halloween but I must be less patient in my old age.
Been thinking of a background, but it'd be a lot of work.
10-06-98 Left work before midnight, made chocolate chip cookies
until 12:40, then foolishly opened Photoshop. So much for getting to
bed early. I've begun to use the "behind" setting on the airbrush
quite a bit (also on previous few pictures). Maybe working from
scanned sketches isn't so bad. "Sad" (renamed to "moment") was only 4
hours so far because some of the figure/proportions was already done
in pencil. Unfinished of course, no legs, front hand sorta messy, but
I like it.
And, as if 4 hours of sleep was too much, I got up in the morning and
spent 45 minutes making sketchy wings and changing her color...
10-04-98 A teaser image for little miss white hair. Started this
one on paper a few weeks ago just for practice. Colored it last night
in a rush, trying to meet a deadline, but didn't. Ah well, it was
lots fun, and I really like the skin and hair color. :-) Up
to 3am or so... silly me. Also, added a page of my ramblings on how I draw, since when people ask, this is
basically what I say.
09-30-98 Here's one for Philip DeRiggi,
entitled Venus.
Lots of work in this one... research, pre-practice, etc. He
commissioned it as part of my Save
Elfwood project and was so generous, I agreed to do a long dress
version (forthcoming.)
09-28-98 Not exactly a new picture. Some link logos since some people asked for them.
Hm. Probably not any standard size. I'm not sure if there is such a
thing.
09-07-98 Uploaded something I've been working on, very off and a
little on, for a while now. Not nearly finished, but I'm pleased with
the lighting and composition. It's See no
evil, with maybe a "Hear no evil", etc to come. Was originally going
to be more monkey-like, but my leg scribblings looked better as a
tail. Trying to do backgrounds. Used the line function in Photoshop
to draw the light.
09-03-98 Oh dear, it's 05:30... Spent 5.5 hours on Wisdom. Stone walls with highlighting
from the sky/fire in the background. Colored text for Jassmine. I
feel pretty good, considering my lack of sleep.
08-31-98 Started in on "Wisdom", the second commission in my
"Help Save Elfwood" project. I researched a bunch of cats first,
finally settling in on the "Russian Blue" breed. I hope she likes
it. If so, I get some time to work on a background.
b
08-26-98 Uploaded the final mischief which wasn't much more, just
three more hours on the wings while failing to do anything useful for
the hips. I had been waiting for confirmation of receipt of the
donation to Elfwood. Regular postal mail takes very very long when
you're used to email and ftp :-/
08-24-98 Made a wrapper page to display Despair. Might be moving away from
naked images, dunno yet. Style a la Elfwood, and allows for
descriptions, notes on the making of, etc. Considering phasing out the
text-only gallery.
08-18-98 Oh no, it's 05:06. I'd like to think mischief is done now. Spent about 4
hours fixing up her body, tweaking her dress, and tweaking her hair.
(sunspark spent who knows how long on her left foot and maybe more.)
For the first time in a while, I actually made the effort to put a
thumbnail in one of my galleries.
08-17-98 Mischief 6 or 7 hours
later, I lost track of the post-it w/ times spent. Cleaned up wings,
spend forever diddling with the left wing attachment (which got
scrapped), tried to make the face look younger, quickie blue-white dress.
08-12-98 More late night work on mischief. With a little help from sunspark
for the pose. Another 3 or 4 hours of work (5 if you include
dinner and nap. :-) Her real name is Bria.
08-11-98 It's 01:44. Spent about 3 hours on
a sketch of mischief, my first
commision for my Save Elfwood project.
She has a real name, I forget what it is.
07-30-98 Darnit, wasted more time last night on the ant lady, spent hours on the hands then
the fuzzy tail.
07-16-98 It's 02:30, better call the ant
lady done. She oughta have a better name... how about "it"?
07-14-98 Stayed up til 2am to work on an ant lady and again in browns.
07-13-98 More on the not-jabberwock, though that was done
Friday when I actually took a day off. It even tiles. :-)
07-01-98 Worked on the wings for a not-jabberwock. Up
til 05:00 and it's not even done yet.
06-19-98 A pencil sketch, he.
06-10-98 Finished the hawk man
demonform and added him and quicksilver to my demons gallery.
06-02-98 Two versions of an experiment: leaf by day and leaf by night.
05-23-98 sketched in a body for the dark fey.
05-06-98 Started on a dark fey
with a lot of eye makeup.
05-04-98 Worked more on a hawk man
demonform.
04-??-98 Finished up the quicksilver demonform.
